It is our understanding that CIC no longer has any national accreditation. We had contacted them in July 2017 and they sent us a package showing accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies for small, medium and large telescoping boom cranes until May 31, 2018. Their accreditation for lattice boom carriers was good to August 31, 2018.
On December 21, 2018, we sent a letter and email requesting information about their current accreditation. Our rules specify under “§12-48-6 Application process (c) At the time of application, an applicant must provide a current NCCCO certificate or an equivalent form of certification showing the applicant has hoisting machine operation experience as required for the NCCCO written exam. A copy of the NCCCO experience form is acceptable.” We have not received a response from the CIC.
Unless we are informed otherwise, the CIC certificate will no longer be acceptable in applying for a Hawaii State Hoisting Machine Operator Certificate. If you are planning to obtain a CIC certificate, you should request that they provide you with written verification of their national accreditation. You should submit that verification along with your HMOAB application.
Your CIC Certificate will be accepted if it was issued before May 31, 2018 or if you began the process of certifying with them before May 31, 2018.
